Mansfield Boys' Track Wins Kelley-Rex Dual Meet Title
The Hornets finish the dual meet 4-1 and as co-champions of the Kelley-Rex Division.
Winning all but three events last night against Attleboro, the Mansfield Hornets boys’ indoor track team found themselves in familiar territory as the 66-28 win gave the Hornets a share of the Kelley-Rex Division championship.
The win represents the third year in a row that the Hornets have won at least a share of the division title.
The Hornets will be co-champions along with King Philip who beat Mansfield earlier in the season and North Attleboro. All three teams end the dual meet season at 4-1.
In the sprints, Curtis Boisvert picked up a win in the 55m dash (6.97) and a second place finish in the 300m dash (37.95). Matt Baldasare (37.15) earned the win for the Hornets in the event. Jimmy Murphy (1:27.65) and James Cooney (1:28.78) led a 1-2 finish in the 600m run. The winning time qualifies Murphy for the Division 2 State Meet next month.
Conor Monks (4:44.02) and Val Madonna-Lendvai (10:08.86) both earned first place finishes in the mile and 2-mile respectively. Madonna-Lendvai’s time was good enough to qualify for the state meet.
Miguel Perez took first place in what ended up as a one on one battle with Attleboro’s Eric Haselton. Perez took the win with a jump of 5-04 ft. to Haselton’s 5-02 ft.
Perez also led a Hornets' sweep of the long jump, winning with a mark of 18-06.5. Jon Considine and Nigel Lewis rounded out the sweep with jumps of 17-11 ft. and 17-7 ft. Oliver Erickson won the shot put with a throw of 46-07 ft.
The Hornets will compete at the Division 2 State Relays on January 19 and return to league competition on February 9 at the Hockomock League Indoor Track Championship Meet.
