Mansfield Police Honored by State with MLEC Award
The following is from the State of Massachusetts.
The Mansfield Police Department was awarded Silver Category for Municipal Departments Award of Excellence from the 2012 Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge (MLEC).
Mansfield was one of 23 departments to be awarded in 2012 MLEC award for service in 2011.
The award was designed to encourage departments to reduce motor vehicle related fatalities, injuries, and economic losses to the Commonwealth.
The event was held at the Devens Common Center on Friday, August 24, 2012, and was attended by the Secretary of Public Safety and Security Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Timothy Alben, the President of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and federal, state and community officials.
“We are proud to list many members of law enforcement as active partners in highway safety,” said Highway Safety Division Director, Sheila Burgess. “Massachusetts can boast one of the lowest traffic fatality rates in the country, thanks to these many fine departments.”
MLEC awards were based on traffic safety activities such as internal policies, officer training, effective patrolling and public information projects during the 2011 calendar year.
