Obituary: Lieutenant Colonel Michael Greene

Mansfield resident Michael Greene passed away at the age of 43 after an 18 month battle with cancer.

LTC Michael Greene, age 43, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2013 after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife Kate and sons Owen and Liam, his pride and joy.

Mike was born on May 25, 1969 in Erie, PA and was a loving son of LTC (retired) Edward and Kathleen (Raftery) Greene of Oklahoma.

As part of a military family, he traveled the world, and lived in many places. He completed boarding school at TASIS, The American School in Switzerland and went on to graduate from George Washington University in 1992.

He was awarded a commission in the US Army through the ROTC program at Georgetown. Mike met his wife Kate while both were students at George Washington. They were happily married for 18 years, and had the joy of raising their two loving boys, Owen and Liam.

Mike served as a full time soldier in the Massachusetts National Guard with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He spent a year-long tour in Kabul, Afghanistan in 2010 . He took great pride in serving our country and enjoyed working alongside his fellow soldiers.

In addition to his devoted wife and sons, and parents, Mike will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his sister Barbara, his aunt Eileen, cousins, in-laws, brothers and sisters-in-law, and his 15 nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, February 14th from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 19th at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:15 A.M.
