Selectmen to Discuss New North Common Flagpole Refurbish
Mansfield already making moves to replace or refurbish the flagpole on the North Common.
Mansfield selectmen will be discussing the replacement or refurbishing the North Common flagpole.
Selectman Jess Aptowitz said that it’s a problematic eyesore in the town, because anyone going through town from Easton’s Route 106 side, it’s the first thing of the municipality they see.
"I think we should be looking into a putting a warrant to refurbish or put a new flagpole on the north common," Aptowitz said. "I think this pole would be cheaper because there’s not a plan to exavate."
The South Common flag pole was refurbished with funds from town organization donations in rememberence of former Mansfield resident Corey Shea, who was killed in action in Iraq.
Some funds for the new flagpole have already been donated by the Mansfield Elks.
They gave a total of $2,000, split up between various organizations of the town. They gave $600 to the North Common Flag Pole replacement project, $700 to the Mansfield Council on Aging for fuel assistance program and $700 for the Daily Bread Food Pantry.
