Mansfield Recall Petition Withdrawn

A recall petition on two Mansfield selectmen has been withdrawn.

According to the Mansfield Town Clerk's Office, the petition to hold a recall election on two Mansfield selectmen has been withdrawn. The petition, taken out last week, was called because of financial concerns and issues of transparency, according to the petitioner, Tina Silverio. The recall election was targeted at selectmen Kevin Moran and Jess Aptowitz. Mansfield Resident Calls for Recall on Two Selectmen, Citing Transparency and Financial Issues

Mansfield resident Tina Silverio explains why she asked for a recall.

On Monday, Mansfield resident Tina Silverio submitted a petition for a recall on selectmen Jess Aptowitz and Kevin Moran. She said the petition was motivated by long-time concerns over financial problems in the town, as well as the more recent issue of most of the finance committee resigning en masse. She said she felt that the resignations were the result of a severe lack of communication and transparency between the two boards during the days leading up to town meeting. Silverio said that the town needs new blood in the board, which is why she started the petition. She said thinks that new members could be better suited to serve the town financially. Selectman Kevin Moran said that he’s not letting the apparent criticism from the recall …

Brown and Warren: Is It Just Politics As Usual?

It’s been an interesting week in the U.S. Senate Race between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Republican Scott Brown.

First off, it was revealed that Harvard University once touted Warren’s marginal Native American heritage as proof of their faculty’s diversity. That story was followed up with another revealing one that Warren had listed herself as a minority professor between 1986 and 1995 in the Association of American Law Schools desk book, a major reference for legal professors. On Tuesday it was revealed that Brown, who ran for office vowing to kill President Obama’s health care law (and who has since voted three times to repeal it) took advantage of a key provision in it: the provision that allows him to keep his elder daughter on his congressional health insurance plan. Meanwhile, both candidates downplayed their wealth this week as they revealed …

Mansfield Residents Elected to Democratic Convention

Two Mansfield residents elected for the Democratic National Convention to represent the fourth district.

A huge turnout across the state marked last Saturday's events held by Massachusetts Democrats to elect delegates to this year’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC.   Mansfield residents Joseph Kaplan and Randall J. Tatum were selected as Fourth District delegates during the convention. Convention delegates will cast their votes to officially nominate President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for a second term and approve the Democratic Party platform. Massachusetts delegates to the Democratic Nation Convention are selected in three ways: At this weekend’s caucuses, registered Democrats in each congressional district elected four men, four women and one alternate delegate. On May 5, the Democratic State Committee will…

That is good to know. I was beginning to think the people of Massachusetts were as dumb as a box of rocks. Here in Illinois, when we elect crooked politicians, we at least put our crooked politicians in prison when they screw up. There, you just re-elect them.   more ›

Sen. Scott Brown To United Chamber of Commerce Event: 'We Must Work Together'

In talking at a United Chamber of Commerce event, Senator Brown talks about the challenges and virtues of small business.

Senator Scott Brown spoke to various local business leaders at a United Regional Chamber of Commerce event Tuesday afternoon. Brown, a Wrentham resident, spoke about the importance of small business during the meeting, which took place at the Franklin Country Club. "I'm proud to be pro-business and pro-jobs legislation," he said. "The government can't create jobs, but it can create an environment where you can create jobs." He said the government must look at ways to encourage growth. "We can't get out of this mess overnight, but we do have the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world," he said. "It's not just Franklin competing with Wrentham any more — both of them are competing against the rest of the world." Brown spoke …

Bailey Throws His Hat Into the State Senate Ring

Jeff Bailey, an Attleboro pastor, is running for the State Senate seat held by James Timilty.

For Jeff Bailey, the theme of his campaign for state senator, will be "jobs, jobs, jobs," but not ones in the casino industry. Bailey, an Attleboro pastor, is running as a Republican against incumbent James Timilty (D-Walpole" for the senate seat, representing Attleboro, Mansfield, Foxborough, Medfield, Norton, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Sharon and Walpole. He announced his intentions to run Thursday night at the Lafayette House in Foxborough in front of a room full of supporters. "I'm not in favor of casinos," said Bailey, sitting just a little over a mile away from the site of the purposed Wynn Resort in Foxborough. "Even before the law was passed, I was against it. I'm against it on principal. It's not the kind of economic development we need…

"Citizen leadership"......now, there's a novel idea! Move over, career politicians, and make room for a real servant's heart. How does that old saying go....? "All that is necessary for evil to conquer is for good men to do nothing." Jeff Bailey is most assuredly one good man who is stepping up to the plate on behalf of us all.....no ego, no hidden personal agenda. He wants what we all want.....a…   more ›
