A recall petition on two Mansfield selectmen has been withdrawn.
According to the Mansfield Town Clerk's Office, the petition to hold a recall election on two Mansfield selectmen has been withdrawn. The petition, taken out last week, was called because of financial concerns and issues of transparency, according to the petitioner, Tina Silverio. The recall election was targeted at selectmen Kevin Moran and Jess Aptowitz. Issues such as the Mansfield Financial Advisory Committee's mass resignations and the town budget were some of the reasons for the petition.

Selectmen disagree on how best to invite the Finance Committee Back.
The mass resignation of six members of the Mansfield Financial Advisory Committee spilled over at the last Board of Selectmen's meeting on Wednesday. Selectmen George Dentino and Jess Aptowitz argued on Wednesday as to the manner of invitation to the recently resigned finance committee members. The finance committee did not attend the most recent Board of Selectmen meeting. “I have a problem with the finance xommittee not coming in to see us,” Dentino said. Aptowitz, chair of the board at the time, had emailed invitations to the finance committee asking if they would come to the most recent meeting to talk about why they left and see if there was any way to rectify the situation and bring them back. The board agreed at the May 2 meeting to…

Mansfield selectmen approve the Comcast Center entertainment license after a lengthy debate about injury and disability liability.
The Mansfield Board of Selectmen approved the Comcast Center entertainment license on Wednesday 4-1 with new chair Olivier Kozlowski opposed. The license came into some discussion concerning a liability issue. The issue stems from an incident and incurring lawsuit when a reserve officer was injured while on detail at the venue. “We all know that we settled a case recently when an auxiliary police officer injured there and we ended up, because of the way the law was set up, having to pay for that disability,” Kozlowski said. The problem in the suit was that the town and the police department were completely liable for his disability payments (despite being from another town) after a lengthy lawsuit that was resolved last year. The liability…

Mansfield resident Tina Silverio explains why she asked for a recall.
On Monday, Mansfield resident Tina Silverio submitted a petition for a recall on selectmen Jess Aptowitz and Kevin Moran. She said the petition was motivated by long-time concerns over financial problems in the town, as well as the more recent issue of most of the finance committee resigning en masse. She said she felt that the resignations were the result of a severe lack of communication and transparency between the two boards during the days leading up to town meeting. Silverio said that the town needs new blood in the board, which is why she started the petition. She said thinks that new members could be better suited to serve the town financially. Selectman Kevin Moran said that he’s not letting the apparent criticism from the recall …
