BARNSTORMERS TRAVEL BASEBALL LEAGUE CELEBRATES 7th SEASON - Nearly 600 Youths Annually Play in League

Barry Zimmerman of The Bulfinch Group is a Norfolk resident who saw a need and helped fulfill it here in the community. Since 1997, Barry has teamed with Cary Nevins of Sharon to create what is now a booming league of youth baseball players from the towns of Norfolk, Sharon, Easton, North Attleboro, Attleboro, Wrentham, Plainville, Foxborough and Mansfield. The Barnstormers league’s mission is to provide a travel baseball league for players not eligible for town all-star travel teams, or for those players that do not want the commitment associated with playing on a travel team. And the league continues its tradition due to continual expanding demand.

“There are simply not enough town all-star teams for the number of youths in these communities who are actively interested in baseball,” explains Barry Zimmerman on why he and Cary Nevins started the league seven years ago. ‘We don’t want to turn those kids away from baseball who may not quite have the skills to compete at an all-star level but who are excited to be a part of a travel team. Through our league, youths can gain an appreciation of the camaraderie and excitement of being on a travel team, an opportunity that they might not have been able to have without the commitment of our incredible league coaches and parents. It’s the goodwill of others that allows the league to work – we are only as good as our member towns.”

In addition to Zimmerman key league participants include Andy Dousa of Mansfield and Cary Nevins of Sharon. Barry Zimmerman resides in Norfolk with his wife and three sons. He is the Director of Norfolk’s summer baseball league and is continually working with the King Philip and Hockomock towns to build and further expand intra-town programs.
