Last month, Gianina Monestime of Mansfield was honored with the Community Service Award from Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. This award recognizes outstanding community service in graduating students.
Gianina graduated this spring from BU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Physiology. During her time at BU, she was a research assistant for the Haitian Health Institute at Boston Medical Center as well as at the Cancer Center for Research at Massachusetts General Hospital. Gianina also served as a Brigader for Global Medical Brigades, where she organized fundraisers to purchase medical supplies for a mobile clinic in Buena Vista.
Director of the Sargent Human Physiology program Professor Judy Schotland said Gianina “has so much to offer: intelligence, motivation, focus, and passion about her career as a physician. She has actively shaped her future, from pursuing public health to the choices she made for summer internships that broaden and strengthen her background. And last, but not least, she is very warm, open, thoughtful, with exceptional communication skills.”Gianina plans to complete her Masters of Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health and BU. Future plans include applying to medical school.
