Chanukah on Ice

Over 500 people participated in Chanukah on Ice, hosted by Chabad in Mansfield, described as the "Biggest Jewish Pride on Chanukah in Massachusetts."

Chanukah on Ice MA made history on Sunday, December 25th, with over 500 Jewish people taking to the ice in Winter Skate at Patriot Place in Foxboro.
The event, which drew people from as far as New Hampshire, Cape cod, Brookline, Natick and Worcester and as close as Milford, Stoughton, Sharon, Norton and Mansfield, is a project of the Chabad Jewish Center.
The Chabad’s of Metro west and South shore, teamed up to promote the event throughout Eastern MA.
"What are Jewish kids supposed to do on the 25th?” asked coordinator Tzivi Kivman. "That’s where the ‘Jewish pride day on Chanukah’ came about. This provided an incredible opportunity to celebrate Chanukah, in a fun, Family event, we drew a huge crowd. The beauty of this event is that it brought Jewish people from every walk of life, to enjoy the spirit and the warmth of Chanukah - on Ice."
Chabad rented the rink out exclusively, which enables them to take over the entire facility. Kosher food was sold at the concession stand, Jewish music blasted from the loudspeakers, and everyone enjoyed spinning on the ice with Judah the Maccabi and Jugglers dressed as life-size Dreidels.
MP3 players, Flip video cameras and Jewish books were just some of the amazing prizes that were raffled off every 15 minutes in the free raffles. A six foot Menorah was lit right outside the rink by co-coordinator Rabbi Yossi Kivman of www.JewishMansfield.com, who recited the blessings, followed by spirited dancing and singing.
A great team of local volunteers from Mansfield, Easton, Sharon, Stoughton, helped prepare and serve the food, set up the event and man the registration tables.
Excited skaters shared their reactions to this event:

"It was a magical event--the beautiful weather, skating, singing, spirit, friends and Hot Dogs! The whole family loved it," raved one Mansfield mom.

"I didn’t know there were so many Jews in the area. We should – no, we must do this again, Rabbi," Said a Rachel (12) from North Attleboro.
