COA BOOK CLUB

COA Book Club will meet on Wednesday, March 14th at 1:00 PM, and the assigned book is "The Late George Apley" by JP Marquand. Participation in Book Group requires prior registration and is free. April Book Group will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 1:00 PM for a discussion of "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier. To register for Book Club, please call Louise at 508-261-7368.

 

BENEFIT IRISH MUSIC CONCERT

Bristol Elder Services is sponsoring an afternoon of Irish music on Sunday, March 18th at 3:00 PM at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree Street, Fall River.The concert features the nationally recognized Irish folk musicians Makem and Spain Brothers.

 

Tickets are $25 each, or $20 each ticket for purchases of 10 or more tickets. For additional information, or to purchase tickets, please call Bristol Elder Services at 1-508-675-2101. Proceeds from this event will help to support the Bristol Elder Services Emergency Fund for seniors in need in the greater Attleboro and Fall River areas.

 

GENEALOGY PROGRAM SCHEDULED

Diane LeBlanc, Regional Administrator of the National Archives, Waltham, will be a guest speaker at the Council On Aging on Tuesday, March 20th at 1:00 PM. Ms. LeBlanc will be discussing the National Archives, its holdings and how to conduct research at the facility. Genealogists are welcome to attend! Space is limited. SUPERFOODS WORKSHOP

Bristol Elder Services Nutritionist Eric Esterling will be at the Mansfield COA for a workshop on Wednesday, March 21st at 12:00 PM. “Choosing the Best Foods to Fight Disease” is free and open to all seniors. For reservations, please call Louise at 508-261-7368.

 

TOWN MANAGER COFFEE HOUR SET

The Council on Aging will be hosting Town Manager Bill Ross at a Coffee Hour on Thursday, March 22nd at 10:00 AM. Mr. Ross will bring Police Chief Arthur O’Neill as a guest speaker, and they both will be addressing the latest in Town business and events. Mansfield seniors are encouraged to attend this fun and informative program. Registrations are not needed. Refreshments will be available. For information, call the COA at 508-261-7368.

 

COA WALKS RESUME

The COA Walking Club will resume warm weather walks starting on Tuesday, April 3rd at 8:45 AM. The Walking Club is open to seniors age 60 and over, and walks range in length and difficulty. April walks are:

 

• 4/3, Bass Pro Shops, Patriot Place

• 4/10, Rails to Trails, Branch Street

• 4/17, Capron Park, Attleboro

• 4/24, Miller’s Walk, Foxfield Plaza

 

All walks leave by car-pool from the COA. To join walks, Please call Darcia Jensen at 508-261-7368.

FRIENDS TO HOLD ANNUAL BAKE AND CRAFT SALE

The Friends of the Drop In Center has set the date for the Annual Spring Bake and Craft Sale — Wednesday, April 4th from 9 - 11 AM. Home baked pastries, breads and desserts and hand crafted seasonal items will be on sale in the Activities Room at the COA. A food basket will also be raffled. Proceeds from this sale will be used to supplement programs sponsored by the Friends. Bakers and crafters are needed! Thoseinterested in donating hand crafted and home baked items should contact COA Activities Coordinator Darcia Jensen at 508-261-7368.

COA TEA PLANNED

The COA will be holding the annual Spring Tea on Friday, April 13th at 11:30 AM. A luncheon of petite sandwiches, salads, desserts and beverages will be served, and a presentation about quilting will follow the luncheon. The cost for the program is $5, and space is limited. Registration for this luncheon begins on Monday, April 2nd. For reservations, please call Louise at 508-261-7368.

 

REPRESENTATIVE POIRIER TO HOST SENIOR SPECTACULAR

Area seniors are invited to attend the 2nd Annual Senior Spectacular on Friday, April 20th from 10 AM - 2 PM. This free program will be held at the North Attleboro Middle School, and includes a continental breakfast and lunch, informational workshops, free health screenings, booths and exhibits, raffles, drawings and a fashion show.

Transportation will be provided by the COA for those who wish to attend but have no transportation available. A program registration is available by download from a link on the COA webpage. For more information, please call the Mansfield COA at 508-261-7368.
