Mansfield Resident Places In District Mathematics Competition

Ashwini Asirwatham of Mansfield, a student at Dayspring Christian Academy of Attleboro, produced a scoring finish recently at the 2012 Eastern  Massachusetts/Rhode Island District Math Olympics sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International in Barrington, R.I.

Asirwatham placed second overall among Grade 8 students in the Reasoning phase of the competition.

According to Beth Cabral, DCA’s faculty adviser for the Math Olympics, DCA students (a total of 30 participated) concluded with one first-place performance, four second-place efforts, one third-place finish and two fourth-place exertions at the daylong event hosted by Barrington Christian Academy. A total of 260 students in grades 3 through 8 representing 10 ACSI-affiliated schools in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island were entered in the competition, which tested students’ mathematical computation and reasoning skills.

“We’re very proud of our students and their achievements during the Math Olympics,” Ms. Cabral said. “They have worked hard in the classroom all year to improve their math skills and it paid off at this competition.”
