Mansfield Scouts Working for Search and Rescue

Mansfield scouts just finished their search and rescue merit badge.

Mansfield scouts are working to find those who lose themselves in the woods.

Troop 17 has a group of Scouts that completed a two-day course to complete their Search and Rescue merit badge.

SAR merit badge is a new offering from BSA, and our Scouts got to participate in one of the first (& likely best) Search and Rescue merit badge classes in the country.

The Scouts (along with many others from all over Annawon council) spent one day  in classroom instruction and demonstrations, then took their skills to the field for a day at World War One Memorial Park in North Attleboro.

They participated in  Wilderness Searches, Orienteering, got to navigate a smoke-filled room to rescue a victim, and helped haul a victim up a 30' cliff.

At the end of the day, the Scouts participating saw what it was like to be on a real SAR mission, as they took part in an simulated Search and Rescue in the woods of the park.  Let's just say that the victim has been accounted for, and is doing fine.
