More Greenery at the Mansfield Green Recycling Center

Keep Mansfield Beautiful and the Mansfield Green Recycling Center team up

The Mansfield Green Recycling Center on route 106 in East Mansfield is looking a bit greener, thanks to volunteers who recently planted 45 new shrubs on the property. It’s all part of a multi-phase project by Keep Mansfield Beautiful to beautify the grounds of the Mansfield Green Recycling Center.

On Saturday, May 7, volunteers from Guerrini Landscape of Mansfield spent the better part of the day planting a mix of 45 rhododendron and mountain laurel shrubs. The crew also transplanted a bradford pear tree, joining a rose of sharon bush recently transferred from another property in Mansfield by Presentato Landscaping. The Mansfield DPW helped facilitate the project, while Blueview Nurseries provided a generous discount on the shrubs. All funding for the project came courtesy of a grant from the Mansfield Non-Profit Gift Fund.

“The Mansfield Green is a highly visible location that sees a lot of visitors each week,” said Neil Rhein, executive director of Keep Mansfield Beautiful. “Our committee saw an opportunity to beautify the appearance of the property by planting shrubs that partially shield the dumpsters and recyclables from view. The project would have been much more challenging for us without help from Guerrini Landscaping. They really stepped up to the plate by donating a crew of workers and the heavy equipment needed to get the job done.”

Later this year, plans call for the installation of a cement sidewalk to replace the current dirt path that bisects the property. The finishing touches will include installation of a new landscaped island and a stone wall.
