Acclaimed Jazz Saxophonist and Recording Artist, Willie Sordillo, to be featured musical guest at The Congregational Church of Mansfield's monthly alternative service

The smooth, engaging, and inspirational music of Willie Sordillo will fill the sanctuary Sunday morning in Mansfield when worshipers gather at at 17 West St. to share in a Jazz Service revolving around the theme from Micah 6:4-8 “Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly With God!”

This week, Sordillo teams with John K. Read (Music Director at The Congregational Church and Jazz Pianist) to deliver some of the rich tunes from the Latin American tradition that will take your breath away. All are invited to share in this amazing service as we explore what it means to “Do Justice” as a people of faith.

Each month during the school year and then weekly during the summer, the congregation shifts gears to welcome featured musicians in a variety of musical genres, explore their faith journey, and find our lives lifted through the skill of these fine performers. Past guest musicians have shared their gifts in Jazz, Native Flute, Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk, Celtic, Contemporary and Choral backgrounds.  A free will offering is received as a way of supporting the musical ministry provided by our special guests.

Rev. Ted Newcomb envisioned “Worship With  A TWiST!” back in 2006 as a means of reaching folks during the warm summer months when minds often turned to summer vacation. Thus began a new service at The Congregational Church of Mansfield featuring The TWiST! The service is informal and engaging. Come as you are! Gather for worship “in the round” downstairs to escape summer heat. Have an intimate experience with a featured musician who performs two significant sets, affording a window into their life and faith journey. The service invites participation. Conversational in nature, it brings scripture alive in a common, down to earth way. Something refreshing and renewing like a twist of lime in a cold glass of water on a hot summer’s day. This is The TWiST!

The congregation’s connection with Mac McClanahan’s ROSEGARDEN COFFEEHOUSE initially yielded a number of folk musicians who shared a spiritual journey and who delighted in the invitation to The TWiST! service. With John K. Read’s arrival as music director, the list of outstanding musicians with wide ranging musical variety has been magnified greatly.  So if you want to add a little spice to your day, be inspired, engaged and uplifted, Worship With A TWiST! is waiting to welcome you this Sunday, May 22, at the Congregational Church of Mansfield at 10 a.m.
