Mansfield Native Honored By YouTube for Weekly Science Videos

Alex Dainis, 24, a Mansfield native, has been recognized for her weekly science videos on YouTube called "Bite Sci-zed."

Mansfield native Alex Dainis has been chosen YouTube EDU, the site's educational website, as one of seven "superstar teachers" nationwide for her the weekly videos she produces on her YouTube channel called "Bite Sci-zed," according to the Boston Herald

The videos, often less than four minutes, explain the science behind everyday phenomena like the common cold, lactose intolerance, and hamburger digestion. Dainis, who graduated from Brandeis University in 2011 with degrees in biology and film, told the Herald that making the videos was a way to bridge those two passions.

Dainis, 24, was also recognized by YouTube and the Khan Academy last year when she was one of 10 educational filmmakers to receive a $1,000 prize and attend an educational summit. She is starting a doctoral program in genetics at Stanford University, so she will be reducing the number of posts on her channel to one or two a month.
