One local mom was the star of her own Cinderella story on “The Rachael Ray Show” Monday morning, thanks to Norton resident Aimee Kolf.
While in line for the show in New York City, Mansfield mother of three Katie McGuire was ambushed by Tyra Banks. The reality show host and model informed McGuire that she would be receiving a makeover on the show, which aired 9 a.m. on CBS Channel 4 Monday.
“Tyra got the tipoff from her mom and sister, so they are the true culprits,” said show host Rachael Ray.
Kolf, who is McGuire’s sister, sent a letter and photos to the show in March 2011. Two weeks ago she found out that they would be on the show, but kept it a surprise until the day of.
“It was hard, but now I know I can keep a good secret,” Kolf said.

McGuire modeled at a junior clothing store called JM. After having her children, she shed 46 lbs., but never updated her wardrobe.
“Katie is a wonderful person. She is my best friend. She is fun to be around. She is a great mom, wife, sister, friend and daughter,” Kolf said. “But she desperately needs help in the style department.”
McGuire said that it is tough to do things for herself while being a working mom.
“Women do this,” Ray said after hearing McGuire’s story. “They put themselves last on the list.”
“It’s your time today,” Banks said.
McGuire’s mother, sister and the rest of the audience looked on in shock as she stepped back onto the stage after her makeover was finished. Tyra’s team put layers in McGuire’s hair and accentuated her almond shape eyes with lashes and smokey eyeshadow. Ted Gibson Salon did the hair.
“I just hope that this reminds you to put you back on that list, because you look amazing,” Ray said.
McGuire said she plans to keep up with her new look, and Kolf agreed to remind her sister to take time for herself once in awhile.
