Mansfield Visions for Vacancies: What Building Should Go Here?

We're asking you what type of establishment would make the most sense in that spot.

Mansifled Patch is starting a new weekly column that will feature vacant properties in town and ask you the reader what you think should be down with them.

To start off, we have one of the most prominent vacant lots in the town, in between the fire station on 291 North Main St. and the Joseph Witt Salon on 313 North Main St.

The location could be ideal for either retail, housing or parking as it is in walking distance to the train and could provide the downtown area with more foot traffic. If it's a retail business building with apartments on upper floors, it would need more space for parking.

A parking lot for the MBTA station could conceivably increase foot traffic in the downtown for local businesses and help the area in that regard.

If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

Since it's already a lot, it makes sense to convert this property to a public parking lot. This would generate some revenue for the town in parking fees and generate traffic for the local businesses. Of course, it depends upon who owns it now as whether this is possible.

Not sure this property can yet be developed as it had contamination issues.

Did not know that. Even if it remains undeveloped, wouldn't the contamination issue still be a problem regardless?

This lot has looked horrible for years. They need to do something and fast. The whole street looks worse every year

Maybe not at this location, but I feel like we could really benefit from a coffee shop with outdoor seating on Main St. Would love to see a Starbucks, but not on Main St - love the old town feel of it. All I know is I do not want to see any more condos downtown - it's simply too much!

Main St. from Church to Villa St. should focus on singles and adults - restaurants with outdoor patios, small music venues, coffee shops, bars, etc.Commercialization should be focused on dining and entertainment. Singles spend money on entertainment. <-> Main St. from Villa St. to town hall should become a family-friendly commercial area, with the focus on businesses and activities for parents and children - resale shop, boutiques, playground near the pond, water splash pad, dessert shop, home goods, smoothie shop, book store. what is the contamination issue? I like the idea of an outdoor cafe as well. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a bookstore again on that street!
