14 Healthy Takeout Tips

7 tips for how to east healthy from a takeout restaurant.

We all order takeout from time to time, especially when the weekend rolls around and the last thing we want to do is make a full meal.  While this is the tasty and easy alternative, it oftentimes is very unhealthy.  However, there are some ways to ensure that you can eat HEALTHY and conveniently at the same time with these simple tips, no matter what type of cuisine you are ordering.

  1. Think first: Come up with a well-thought order, and stick to it!  Therefore, you won’t be tempted at the last second to order something else.
  2. Order broth-based: Soups can be a healthy addition to your takeout night, but make sure that you don’t pick something super creamy or heavy!
  3. Choose whole wheat: Even switching something as simple as a whole wheat bun or bread on your sandwich saves calories and adds healthy benefits.
  4. Love lean meats: If you’re craving something meaty, always swap sausage, bacon, and ground beef, for turkey, ham, or chicken.
  5. Say yes to substitutes: Don’t be afraid to ask to swap out the fries for a side salad or vegetable.  If they say no- at least you asked and tried!
  6. Go Spicy:  If you can handle the heat, go for dishes with medium to hot spices as these can boost your metabolism by increasing your body’s temperature and speeding up the fat-burning process.
  7. Ditch Dessert: Take it from the experts, takeout desserts are mostly a waste of calories and are more of a hassle than they are worth.  If you are having a sweet tooth craving, have a Hershey kiss or 2 instead!
