Flu Season 2013

Due to the massive spread of the flu virus so early in the season, it is important that you protect yourself and your family over the next few months.

While we try every season to prevent the flu epidemic from reaching our very own households, it seems as though this year we may have more trouble than usual.  It has been stated that this year is one of the WORST flu seasons in history! Yes, in history.  Already, more than 29 states and New York City are reporting high levels of flu-like-illness and another 9 states are reporting moderate levels of the illness as well.  In total, around 3 quarters of the country is affected by the flu.  Already, 18 children have died from flu-associated deaths.

What can you do not to become one of these statistics?  For starters, it isn’t too late to get the flu shot.  This simple act can not only save you or your kids from a week of feeling miserable on the couch, but possibly your lives as well.  In addition, it is important that if you do develop flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, nasal congestion, or muscle aches, to immediately begin taking an anti-viral medication, such as Tamiflu.  This will suppress and rid your body of these symptoms and prevent yourself from spreading the virus to others.

Other much more common preventatives include hand washing or using Purell, covering your mouth when you sneeze or cough, and never touching your face with your hands if they have not been washed.
