Review of New Chobani Products!

Woohoo, I was lucky enough to get some new Chobani products in the mail to test out.  You all know I love free stuff, so I was excited to work through the new flavors over the past two weeks.

I was most excited about trying the Chobani Key Lime “Flip” yogurt, which has a section for yogurt along with a small portion of a topping – graham cracker crumbs and a few white chocolate chips in this case.

Now, those of you who know me well know that I actually am not a huge fan of eating greek yogurt straight.  I love baking with it, experimenting with it in dips and meals, and I also like it as frozen yogurt.  But for some reason, I’ve never been that into just eating it straight up.

Chobani Key Lime completely changed my mind about that.  It was really creamy, and the combination with the graham cracker crumbs was just super delicious.  It was like a decadent dessert…but it only had 170 calories!  Now, of course there’s some added sugar in here – actually, several forms can be found on the label - evaporated cane juice, sugar, brown sugar, and honey.  The total amount of sugar for the product is 19 grams, however this also includes some natural sugar in the yogurt itself.  But compared to another product like a cookie or brownie, which don’t provide us with much nutritionally, with the yogurt you’re also getting 11 grams of protein and 15% of your daily calcium requirements (and for less calories than many other items).  It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something to satisfy that sweet tooth in exchange for a higher calorie, less healthy item.

I also decided to experiment with the pear flavor a bit, and used them to whip up a version of a pancake.  I mixed 1/3 cup whole wheat flour, 1/3 cup oats, 1 egg, 6 ounce container of Chobani 0% Pear, 1 tsp cinnamon, and a splash of milk.  Then I just cooked in a nonstick pan like any other pancake.  My husband didn’t like them at all – he’s a fan of those giant light & fluffy pancakes.  These were denser and had a creamier texture compared to regular pancakes.  I actually liked them though; I topped them with a little maple syrup and some sliced kiwi and thought it was a delicious breakfast.  So basically, I have no idea if they were actually good or I just like bad versions of pancakes, ha-ha!

Out of all of the new flavors, my husband liked the Rockin Blueberry Tube the best and I liked the Key Lime flavor the best.  I also like that they have the 100 calorie yogurts, since it makes a portion controlled treat easy without the risk of overdoing it (although I wasn’t as big a fan of the coffee & chocolate flavor).

Disclosure:  Chobani provided me with free yogurt to try.  As always, all opinions are my own.
