4. Hornets Qualify for Boys' Hockey Tournament

With a 2-1 win over rival North Attleboro last night, the Mansfield Hornets have punched their ticket to the MIAA Division 2 South hockey tournament.

Down 1-0 after a period of play, Kevin Flynn's game-tying goal less than 90 seconds into the second period made it 1-1 game.

A backhanded shot from Brenden Murphy found the back of the net to give the Hornets the lead and the later the win with 5:30 remaining in the game.

Mansfield improves to 8-4-3 overall and 8-3 in league play. The Hornets will travel to Nauset Regional on February 16 for a 3:30 p.m. puck drop.

5. Home of Mansfield Boys' Hockey Expanding

Speaking of hockey, hopefully this means that the Hornets can get some better ice times next season. The Foxboro Planning Board will hold a public hearing tonight at 8:15 p.m. in the Andrew Gala Meeting Room of Town Hall to review a Site Plan for the Foxboro Sports Center. The review application from F.S.C. Realty LLC is for the construction of an addition to the existing skating rink facility to include a third skating rink and associated improvements.
