5 Things: Mansfield Students Win Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards and More

It's Friday, March 8 and here are the 5 things you need to know!

1. Today's Weather From the National Weather Service

  • Today: Snow, mainly before 2pm. High near 36. Breezy, with a north wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Tonight: A slight chance of snow showers before 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 28. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

 

2. Mansfield Students Win Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards

A total of 10 Mansfield students were recently awarded 12 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards this year. Marty Reynolds led the winners with a Gold Key award in the portfolio category. The rest of the winners include:

  • Lauren Baldwin, Honorable Mention - Drawing
  • Kathleen Blundell, Honorable Mention - Painting
  • Elizabeth Boyer, Silver Key - Drawing and Silver Key - Sculpture
  • Denielle Camillo, Gold Key - Photography, Honorable Mention - Mixed Media and Honorable Mention - Digital Art
  • Delaney Jodice, Honorable Mention - Photography
  • Julie Musto, Honorable Mention - Photography
  • Jessie Radgowski, Honorable Mention - Painting
  • Marty Reynolds, Gold Key - Art Portfolio
  • Maya Tajchman, Silver Key - Painting

The Gold Key and Silver Key winners will have their art displayed at the State Transportation Building until Friday, April 19.

3. The Women's Link Postponed

Due to the weather, the Women's Link presented by the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce has been moved to March 28 at 7:30 a.m.

 

4. Volunteers Needed for Great American Cleanup of Mansfield

Keep Mansfield Beautiful is now looking for volunteers to take part in the Great American Cleanup of Mansfield on April 27 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

5. Make your own Passover Matzah

The Chabad Jewish Center will be once again hosting the exciting Model Matzah Bakery workshop on Sunday, March 17th at 2pm, at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield.

This Model Matzah Bakery is an exciting, hands-on educational workshop and fun experience for the entire family. Participants will experience and relive the story, history and art of Matzah Baking by hand. This multimedia event features rolling pins; brick oven; hole makers; flour; water and many hands all designed to bring to life the old style, wood burning Matzah Bakery of yesteryear, still very much in use today at select hand-made Matza bakeries.

The Model Matzah Bakery Workshop will be held Sunday, March 17 at 2PM at the Holiday Inn hotel, 31 Hampshire Street in Mansfield. The program is scheduled for slightly more than an hour. This program is open to the Public.
