A Mansfield Valentine

Crafts, treats, eats and likes for your love.

It is that time of year again when men rush around trying to find the customary chocolate and flowers so their special one can act surprised when they receive the same, all in the name of love. This weekend, Mansfield is ready to help those last minute shoppers spread a little love around.

Start by bringing the family downtown on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 11am-2pm for some free chocolates at the first ever Chocolate Walk. More than 30 businesses will be handing out chocolates and Valentine’s Day treats. The walk begins at the at 377 N Main Street where you can pick up a list of all the participating businesses. Each one will also be marked with red balloons. Make sure you bring a bag to carry all that candy.

Some businesses are offering more than just chocolate. Artiste, the new art and craft gallery at 263 N Main Street will be offering a free class led by Kristi Johnston to decorate heart boxes. There is one class for 4-6-year-olds from 10am-11am and another for ages 7 and up from 11am-noon. One class offers painting and the other decoupage. There is a limit of eight per class and you must call ahead to reserve a spot. They will also be holding a free raffle for a craft kit.

is one stop on the walk and they will be celebrating the holiday through the weekend and into Monday. Though normally closed every Monday, they will be open for Valentine’s dinner at 5pm. This will be their fifth Valentine’s Day and they are offering their special Valentine’s desert for the perfect end to a relaxed and romantic evening. The dessert features two gelato hearts; chocolate covered in a dark chocolate shell and strawberry covered in a red chocolate shell. Owner, Carolyn Trudu said there is still availability for the weekend and Monday, but be sure to call ahead (508-339-1839) to make your reservations.

The Walking Warriors, a group of over 50 girls from elementary school to high school dedicated to raising money for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life, are joining in the holiday festivities. They will be selling candy bouquets and Lindt chocolate bags on Saturday from 10am-4pm atin Mansfield Crossing on 280 School Street and from 3pm-7pm at at 30 Chauncy Street. The bouquets cost between $8-10 and the bags cost $5. The group has increased their donations each year and hopes to do the same this year with a goal of $11,000-12,000.
