Deutsche Bank Championship Supporting Local Charities

AJGA golf tournament will be held July 18-21 at Plymouth Country Club and Camp Harbor View 5K road race to take place July 28 on Long Island in Boston Harbor

For the third consecutive year, the Deutsche Bank Championship in cooperation with EMC will supplement its ongoing charitable efforts by staging two Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity events this month.

The Championship will host the nation’s top male and female junior golfers in the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out – an American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament – July 18-21 at Plymouth Country Club in Plymouth, Mass. The tournament is expected to draw a field of 96 boys and girls ages 12-18 for a three-day, 54-hole stroke-play competition. The current field of 64 boys and 22 girls is listed below. More information and volunteer registration is available at www.ajga.org/MicroSites/index3.asp?TN=201159.

On the evening of July 28, the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Camp Harbor View Island 5K road race will be held on Long Island in Boston Harbor. Annually, the event raises more than $100,000 to support Camp Harbor View, whose mission is to provide an opportunity for nearly 1,000 children from Boston’s at-risk neighborhoods to experience the joys of summer day camp. Registration for the Harborthon 5K is $45 and includes a ferry ride to and from the island via Long Wharf or Marina Bay, a post-race barbeque/concert and a race T-shirt. For more information, and to register to run, walk or attend as a spectator, please visit www.campharborview5k.com.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to support these two great events,” Championship Director for the Deutsche Bank Championship Eric Baldwin said. “The AJGA does a terrific job helping aspiring young golfers hone their skills and develop as young adults, and Camp Harbor View provides an amazing service to Boston’s inner-city youth in need. These organizations align perfectly with our charitable mission, which is to support local organizations that make a positive impact in our communities.”

About Camp Harbor View

Camp Harbor View opened in 2007 as a result of Mayor Menino’s concern for the welfare of Boston’s inner-city children. Mayor Menino reached out to Boston businessman and civic leader Jack Connors, Jr. and together they had the idea to create a camp for at-risk Boston children that would expose them to experiences and activities beyond their day- to-day lives. With the help of John Fish and a powerful Suffolk Construction team, the Camp was built in 109 days. Today, Camp Harbor View is operated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and in 2011 will provide 1,000 of Boston’s inner-city youth with four weeks of summer day camp for just $5. Each camper experiences a wide variety of activities designed to build confidence, encourage creativity and help develop the leadership skills they need during school and beyond.
