Kosilek's Sex Change Operation Request Suspended

US District Judge Mark Wolf will allow the Patrick administration time to appeal the decision to give a state-funded sex change operation to Michelle Kosilek.

 

Michelle Kosilek's state-funded sex change operation was suspended Tuesday by US District Judge Mark Wolf to allow for the Patrick administration's to appeal take place, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

Wolf also rejected a request by the former Mansfield man, who was convicted of his killing his wife, Cheryl, in 1990, to receive electrolysis treatment while waiting for the surgery. Kosilek was known as Robert at the time was he was sentenced in Bristol Superior Court in New Bedford in January 1993.

Wolf said in September that the state has to pay for sex reassignment surgery because it is the only adequate care for Kosilek's gender identity disorder.
