Mansfield's Gilson Named Professional Indoor Football League's Rookie of the Year

Communications DirectorVoted on by opposing teams head coaches and media staff, The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) is proud to announce that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks WR Thomas Gilson of Mansfield and Alabama Hammers LB Jake Trantin are the 2013 Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year.

Gilson (6’2 215, UMass-Amherst) finished the season second in the PIFL in receptions with 93, just two behind league-leader Herb Jones of the Richmond Raiders.  Alongside wide receivers Tyrone Collins and Toriel Gibson, Gilson spear-headed arguably the best receiving trio in the PIFL that combined to haul in 246 receptions with all three landing in the top-five in that category in the league.  In addition, he one of five players to surpass the century mark in scoring eclipsing the mark at 114 and at one point scored a touchdown in nine consecutive games guiding him to All-PIFL 2nd Team honors. 

Trantin (6’2 240, William & Mary) was a unanimous selection as the Defensive Rookie of the Year completing his rookie campaign tied for the league-lead in sacks with 11 sacks.
