Ironically, French Fries, originally credited to be of Belgian origin, are a staple of American culture and cuisine.

One notable historian claimed that in the 17th century Spanish Netherlands, fishermen would fry sliced potatoes when the ice made fried fish to dangerous to catch. Now, like Dutch Apple Pie, Americans have adopted the foodstuff as their own.
