TELL US: Was Euthanizing Milo the Right Decision?

Do you agree with the decision to euthanize Milo or is there an alternative action that should of been taken?

After becoming a local story of interest, the three-year-old pointer hound mutt named Milo was put down yesterday after attacking two people and raising the issue of whether a dog should be put down in this type of situation.

Heather Bailey recalled the incident that led to the attack. After picking up six year old Christian Hebert from his bus stop Jan. 3 to babysit him, she needed to go into her house to get the key to Herbert's home across the street. While inside the Bailey house, Herbert went to pet the sleeping dog while Bailey went into another room to get a video game. Once she left the room, that is when the dog struck the child.

"When I got the video game, that's when I heard all this commotion," she said at the public hearing, visibly shaking during the recollection.

Herbert needed over 400 stitches to recover from the attack.

Based on the severity of the bites and testimony from animal control officers, the selectmen voted 3-2 to euthanize the dog. The Bailey family originally intended to appeal the decision, but a second attack would force the family to reconsider an appeal.

The dog attacked again in his own home on the evening of March 2 when Milo bit 16-year old Ashley Bailey on her face and ankle. The injuries sent her to Hasbro Children's Hospital for medical attention. To hear the 911 recording from the incident, click here.

Talking to WHDH, Michael Bailey said his daughter is recovering from the attack.

“It’s a family crisis and we’ll all grow from it. I’m just glad vital organs or eyes are still intact -- everything. She’s going to heal and we’re going to get back to normal,” Bailey told WHDH.

The next day, the dog was signed over to the town by the Bailey family and given to animal control.

After the two attacks, do you agree with the town's decision to euthanize Milo? If not, was there an alternative measure that could of been taken? Tell is in the comments section.
