Mansfield Football Team Delivers for Local Boy Fighting Cancer

Danny Nickerson, a 5-year-old Foxborough boy fighting an aggressive form of cancer, said he just wants a bunch of birthday cards for his sixth birthday on Friday.

The Mansfield High School football team came through for a local boy fighting an aggressive form of cancer.

Five-year-old Danny Nickerson has been fighting Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a type of brain cancer. Fewer than 10 percent of children diagnosed with the disease make it past 18 months.

"Every day is a blessing for us," his mother, Carley, told ABC News.

The boy has received over 30 chemotherapy treatments since he was diagnosed with the disease in October.

His mother said Danny gets excited when he receives mail and asked for a box full of birthday cards for his sixth birthday on Friday. The Mansfield High football squad sent a letter this week.

Cards may be mailed to:

  • Daniel Nickerson
  • P.O. Box 212
  • Foxboro, MA 02035
