Don't Forget to Sign Up for PMC Patriot's Place Kid's Ride

The PMC Patriot Place Kids Ride is looking for cyclists between the ages of 3 and 14 to shift the course of cancer by riding and raising money for Dana-Faber Cancer Institute on Sunday, August 4.

Local businesses, including Covidien, as well as schools and community leaders are all pulling together to help make this year’s ride a great success

The PMC Kids Rides are spokes in the PMC wheel, joining the more than 5,500 adult PMC cyclists in their mission to fund adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is the two-day, 190-mile bike-a-thon held each August. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $375 million for the Jimmy Fund. PMC Kids Rides offer a way for children to become part of the PMC mission, involving young people in volunteerism and fundraising in a safe and athletic way. The PMC Kids Rides program has raised more than $4 million since it was founded in 1998.

To give the young cyclists an additional push, the PMC recognizes cyclists in the Kids Rides program who raise $250 or more. Riders who meet this goal are honored as Heavy Hitters and receive an official PMC hat, certificate and sticker to place on their helmets to acknowledge their fundraising achievements.

The PMC Patriot Place Kids Ride expects more than 75 children, ages 3 to 14, to ride one of three available routes around Patriot Place in Foxborough. The PMC Patriot Place Kids Ride was started by Covidien, a global healthcare products leader with its U.S. headquarters in Mansfield, Mass., five years ago as a small ride on the Covidien campus. The ride has grown to include local communities and businesses to create a larger and more exciting event.  Nearly 50 volunteers, including Covidien employees, have helped to establish the routes, which provide a unique opportunity to interact with the adult PMC riders coming through the water stop and finish line also at Patriot Place. The PMC Patriot Place Kids Ride will include activities before, during and after the ride, including a raffle, face painting, games and more. The ride hopes to raise more than $10,000.
