D’Ya Ever Notice?

There are times throughout the day where the voice of Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes haunts me.   For some of my younger readers, Andy Rooney is a cantankerous old man who has inane observations and reports them on the news magazine 60 Minutes.  His voice is a little nasally and his wild eyebrows practically touch in that weird way older gentleman abandon their eyebrow grooming.  His segments usually start with, “D’ya ever notice…”, and watching the program with my parents when I was younger I found myself agreeing with his thoughts.  It’s been several years since I have watched this news program and I am not sure if Andy is still on the show but he definitely enters my noggin here and there after all these years.  So in my homage to Andy Rooney I will let you in on what’s on my mind recently.  While you read this please use the Andy Rooney voice as it sounds less crazy-sounding coming from him than from me.

 “D’ya ever notice”…that when you are on the run, doing errands and hadn’t put much thought into your outfit, or matching socks or brushed teeth, is when you run into EVERYONE you know.  You just want to crawl under a rock, praying that no one took stock of the fact that you ran out in your Hello Kitty pj bottoms?

 “D’ya ever notice”…that when you are upset with your kids, you utilize their full birth name as you shout it across the park!

 “D’ya ever notice”…that when you least expect it, your child will stick their finger in their nose and embarrass you in public.

 “D’ya ever notice”…just when you are starting to like a television show on one of the networks and are vested in it, they cancel it and or move the time slot on you?

 “D’ya ever notice”…when you need to look your best for a job interview, meeting up with friends or a special night out your face will break out, your pants won’t fit and your hair turns into Diana Ross’s locks from the 70’s?

 “D’ya ever notice”…that when you need to get somewhere fast, you will hit every red light to slow you down.

 “D’ya ever notice”…that husbands have no ability to refill the toilet paper roll in the bathroom and you realize it too late???

 These are just a few injustices and thoughts that have scurried across my mind recently. Do you have any to add?  Please let me know.  Remember you have to do it in Andy Rooney voice. For those who don’t know it, You Tube it.  It’s a fun exercise and it makes the time go by.

 I just want the reader to know that I wrote this before I knew of his retiring from CBS. Thanks for always rattling around in my head all these years.
