Edward Leyden Jr. 95, 'Could Fix Anything'

Leyden was a longtime resident of Everett and Revere before moving to Mansfield.

Edward F. Leyden, Jr., 95 years, resident of Everett for over 56 years, Retired Lithographer. Edward passed away on Sunday, February 2nd, after a long illness at The Villages at Willow Crossing in Mansfield, MA.

Mr. Leyden was born and raised in Revere. He was educated in Revere and was a graduate of the Class of 1938. He entered the United States Navy in June of 1943, hoping to serve his country proudly overseas, but due to a medical condition he was Honorably Discharged, shortly that same year. After leaving the service, he had worked several jobs, before beginning a career at Buck Printing Company, where he would begin his 30-plus career there as a Lithographer.

Mr. Leyden had married his love, Barbara A (Herron) in 1948 and immediately settled in Everett and began to start their family. Mr. Leyden was known to be a quiet man but his actions spoke volumes of the man that he was. He was very industrious and was known to build homes and could fix anything, he was a testament of the Greatest Generation. He and his wife were very proud parishioners and supporters of Our Lady of Grace Church.

He retired at age 65 and continued to stay busy with one of his biggest joys in his life his 11 grandchildren. In 1990, Mr. Leyden lost his daughter, Kathleen to her battle of cancer, on Dec. 26th, 1991; he lost his dear wife Barbara. He continued to stay faithful and active; he occupied his time with his children and grandchildren. He would often spend his summers down on Cape Cod, with his family.

He is the beloved husband of 43 years, to the late Barbara A. (Herron), loving father of Edward F. Leyden, III & his wife Norma of North Reading, William P. Leyden & his wife Jenne of Medford, Carol Leyden - Otto & her husband David G. of Mansfield and the late Kathleen A. Leyden. He is the cherished grandfather of; Michael Leyden, Michelle Coscia & her husband David, Daniel Leyden, Scott Leyden, Brian Leyden & his wife Amanda, Kristine Leyden, Christopher Otto, Kevin Otto, Sean Otto, Caitlin Otto & Ryan Otto, He is the adored great grandfather of Lilly Leyden & Jonah Coscia. He is the brother of Joan Derba of Lexington, The late Frederick V, Leyden, Alice Harney & Phyllis L. Miller. He is the brother in law of Marilyn B.Marney Leyden. Also lovingly survived by many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
