Alfred J. Borriello, 91, of Mansfield, formerly of Belmont passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred E. (Porcello) Borriello, to whom he was wed on June 10, 1946. Mrs. Borriello passed away on February 27, 1991.
Born in the North End of Boston on May 19, 1921, he was a dear son of the late Giuseppe and Louisa (Cozzolillo) Borriello. He grew up in the West End of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools.
During WWII, Fred proudly and faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class, as a member of Battery D 459th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion on October 29, 1946.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Borriello was employed as a carpenter and bricklayer in Waltham. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 17 years and had formerly resided in Belmont for 35 years.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and a member of the Belmont VFW. Fred’s hobbies included building wishing wells, rabbit hutches and dog houses. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his great grandson “Frankie”.
He is survived by his devoted children, Dianne Royle of Mansfield and Michael J. Borriello of Billerica. He was the brother of Edith Palmisano of New York and the late Philomena Vozzella, Angelina Kempisty, Paul, Antonio, Charles, Ernesto, Salverio and James Borriello. Mr. Borriello is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Christopher Royle of Mansfield, Jennifer Royle of the North End of Boston and Kevin Royle and his wife Beth of Attleboro, his cherished grandson, Francis “Frankie” Royle and many nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Francis K. “Frank” Royle.
Funeral Services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral services on Tuesday morning beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Fred’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Patients Activities Fund at Epoch of Norton, 184 Mansfield Ave., Norton, MA 02766 or the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
