Obituary: Mansfield Resident Alice Cavanaugh

Alice Cavanaugh passed away at the age of 89.

Alice M. (Egan) Cavanaugh, age 89, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossing in Mansfield, formerly of Brooksville, Florida and Milton passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at home, on Friday, February 8, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late George E. Cavanaugh, Sr.

Born in Boston, MA on March 8, 1923, Alice grew up in the Dorchester section of Boston and was a graduate of the former Girls High School in Boston.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Cavanaugh had been employed as a secretary in the accounting firm of Gerald Riley, CPA in Milton.

A resident of Mansfield for the past 2 ½ years, she had formerly resided in Brooksville, Florida for over 25 years and previously for many years in Milton.

While living in Milton, Alice was a longtime communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Milton. When not spending time with her adoring family, she loved line dancing of which she had also enjoyed teaching others.

She is survived by her devoted children, James Cavanaugh and his wife Anne of Mansfield, Elaine Czarnowski and her husband John of Foxboro, Judith McDonough and her husband Robert of Lexington, Gerald Cavanaugh of South Weymouth, Daniel Cavanaugh and his wife Karen of Stoughton and the late George Cavanaugh, Jr. She is also survived by her cherished 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, February 14th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 13th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Alice’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, 275 Grove St., Newton, MA 02466.
