P. Scott Powers, 46, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away on Monday January 9, 2012 as the result of a hiking accident on Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

Born in Boston, MA on October 29, 1965, he was a loving son of Gilbert A. and Gloria J. (Striplin) Powers of Mansfield.

Scott grew up and was educated in Mansfield. He was a 1984 graduate of Mansfield High School. For over 15 years, he had worked as a Sales Consultant at Prime Acura in Walpole.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. A member of the National Parks Association, Scott loved nature and all the beauty it bestowed.

Scott’s hobbies included hiking, biking, and traveling. He was an ardent New England sports fan, was very knowledgeable on the subject of history, and will always be remembered for the love and kindness he showed to animals.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving companion; Nora J. Seyer, with whom he made his home in Mansfield, his dear brothers and sisters; Pamela A. Curley and her companion Ron Zuess of Clinton, Robert W. Curley of Athol, Kevin S. Powers and his wife Gina of Mansfield and Angela L. Giusti and her husband Mark of Swansea, his cherished grandmother; Stella Powers of Rockland, and his adoring nieces and nephew; Kara and Sean Powers and Amanda Curley. Scott is also survived by several aunts and cousins.

His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday January 14th at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday January 13th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Scott’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, care of St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
