Obituary: Remembering Mansfield Resident William J. Mogk

Services will be held on May 14.

William J. Mogk, age 86, of Mansfield passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean E. (Travers) Mogk who died on October 10, 1985.

Born in Boston, MA on September 30, 1926 he was a son of the late William P. and Beatrice (Maillet) Mogk. He grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School.

For over 20 years, Mr. Mogk proudly served his country during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy. He had originally enlisted in the United States Coast Guard before transferring into the Navy. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and on March 22, 1966 was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Construction Mechanic Second Class.

He later worked for ten years as a security officer at the former Polaroid Corporation in Mansfield. Bill had resided in Mansfield for over 40 years and was a member of the Phillips-Welch VFW Post 3264 in Mansfield

Bill was a wonderful man and a true red, white and blue American. He diligently respected the American Flag and had a special place in his heart for animals. He will always be fondly remembered for his tenacious, incorrigible and cantankerous mannerism.

He is survived by his dear sisters Katherine Richenburg of Milford and Carol Croke of Bellingham, as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his graveside funeral services with military honors on Tuesday, May 14th at 1:00 P.M. at the Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood.

Visitation will be held prior to the services on Tuesday morning from 11:00 A.M. til 12:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, William’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, 175 Fruit St., Mansfield, MA 02048
