Obituary: Ronald K. Sankey

Mansfield resident Ronald K. Sankey.

Ronald K. Sankey, 69, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly at home, on Thursday July 5, 2012. He was the former husband of Kathleen E. (Mei) Sankey.

Born in Attleboro, MA on October 14, 1942, he was a dear son of the late Albert F. and Rose M. (Chippola) Sankey.

Ron grew up in Mansfield and was a 1960 graduate of Mansfield High School. A standout athlete, he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. He also attended Northeastern University and had the opportunity to play college baseball.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Sankey had worked for 25 years in the shipping and receiving department at Northrop Corporation in Norwood.

Ron was an avid sports enthusiast his entire life and served as a former Mansfield Little League coach. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially with his adoring grandchildren, and attending all their activities while growing up.

In addition to his former wife, he is survived by his loving children: Kimberley R. O’Donnell and her husband Kevin of Mansfield and Ronald A. Sankey of Attleboro. The devoted brother of Gregory F. Sankey of Orleans, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Samantha R. O’Donnell and Matthew R. O’Donnell both of Mansfield, Taylor R. Sankey and Joseph P. Sankey both of Middleboro and the late Jenna Rose O’Donnell. Mr. Sankey also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held at the convenience of his family. Visiting hours are omitted and burial will be held privately in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
