Obituary: Royal Barre

The following is the obituary for Royal E. "Joe" Barre.

Royal E. “Joe” Barre, 91, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of June M. (Tilton) Barre, to whom he was wed for the past 64 years.

Born in Whitinsville, MA on March 1, 1921, he was a loving son of the late Leon and Cecelia (Barry) Barre.

Joe spent his early childhood living in Whitinsville. His family later moved to Mansfield, where he was educated in Mansfield public schools.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Barre had worked as a tool setter for 18 years at the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro. He had previously been employed at the Valentine Tool and Stamping Co. in Norton and at the former S.W. Card Co. in Mansfield.

Joe had lived in Norton for the past 35 years and was a former longtime resident of Mansfield. He loved spending time with his family His hobbies included both fresh water and salt water fishing, playing card games, cribbage being his favorite. He also enjoyed breeding rabbits and raising chickens.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted sons, Russell L. Barre and his wife Tina of Mansfield and Richard E. Barre and his wife Maureen of Norton. He was the dear brother of Gertrude Griffiths of Mansfield and the late Robert Barre, and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Ryan Barre of Mansfield, Kevin Barre and his wife Kimberly of Georgia, Julianna Patton of Attleboro and Jadden Patton of Attleboro, his great granddaughter Emma Grace Barre, as well as his former daughter-in-law Renee Patton of Attleboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday October 21st from 3-5 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visiting hours at 5:00P.M. on Sunday at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Private burial will be at a later date in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
