Obituary: William J. Morrison

William J. Morrison, 71, a resident of DeBary, Fla., formerly of Mansfield, died at Morton Hospital in Taunton, Thursday, Sept. 19.

Bill was married to Pauline F. (Callahan) Morrison for 52 years. Born in Norwood, he was raised in Stoughton, and graduated from Stoughton High School, in 1959. He resided in DeBary, Fla., for the past 6 years, after living in Mansfield for 38 years.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Morrison became a Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lester out of Newport, R.I. He was a furniture salesman for over 45 years before retiring in 2003.

Bill enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family at home or at their cottage in Mendon. He loved working in the yard and playing with his many pet boxers over the years.

As a couple, Bill and Pauline shared many evenings gliding across the floor as ballroom dance partners. He had a keen interest in history, including the arts and crafts movement and family genealogy. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Morrison leaves three daughters, Pat and her wife Maren Brown of Florence, Terre and her wife Karen Popovich of Essex Jct., Vt., and Holly Sparrow and her husband Jay of North Attleboro, and their son Devin. He also leaves his brother of George Morrison of Fountain Valley, Calif., and the late Richard Morrison.

Visiting hours were held Thursday, Sept. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton. Interment at Knollwood Memorial Cemetery, 321 High St., Canton, Mass., Friday, Sept 27, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
