Attleboro Man in Mansfield Manslaughter Trial Found Innocent

Tyerell Charles was "relieved," lawyer says.

The Attleboro man who was accused of manslaughter at a Mansfield Apartment Complex was found innocent Wednesday at Fall River District Court.

Tyerell Charles, 23, of Attleboro was found by the jury to be acting in self-defense when he shot and killed Aderito Cardoso of Brockton in at the Village at Mansfield Depot on Francis Ave. in Jan. 2011.

"It was clear from our point of view that my client acted in self-defense and I think that the jury verdict reflects that," Charles' attorney Michael Doolin of Dorchester told Patch Thursday.

Charles also suffered from a gunshot wound during the January, 2011 conflict, in which he arrived at his girlfriends apartment on Francis Avenue in Mansfield to find Cardoso with his girlfriend.

Doolin said Wednesday's decision represents an incident where the system worked.

"I think that if you have police officers who do their work, [attorneys] that vigorously represent their clients, a judge that is fair and a jury that comes into court and works hard, you usually get the right result and I think this shows it," he said.
