Juniper Road Blaze Sends Elderly Woman to Hospital

Mansfield firefighters assisted in Norton after a fire ripped through a house on Juniper Street Tuesday night, the sole resident of the home was sent to the hospital.

Rose Roberts, 84, was home alone at 5 Juniper when the fire started in Norton at approximately 8:40 p.m.

“The neighbor was able to help the victim out,” said Norton Fire Captain Kevin Schleicher. ““There was heavy fire throughout the house. The crew did a great job knocking down the fire”

Roberts was transported to Morton Hospital by Mansfield Rescue. Her condition is unknown at this time. Roberts suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

“She seemed OK,” Schleicher said.

The blaze took about 20 minutes to knock down with the help of Easton, Mansfield and Attleboro engines. Schleicher said while the house needs to be looked over more closely, it looks like a total loss.

“There is a lot of heat and fire damage,” he said.

At this time the family is not sure if a donation fund will be set up.

“My mom is on social security,” said her son, Gary Roberts. “I’m on social security and I’ve been giving her almost all my money to help her, breaking myself and still taking care of my family.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by , but Gary believes it may have been an electrical issue.

“I just can’t believe this is happening,” Gary said. “Sometimes I don’t believe there’s a God. Right now I’m not believing there is.”
