[Update] Mansfield and Area Fire Departments Rescue Three from Three-Alarm Fire on Chauncy Street

Three people were removed safely from the fire.

The Mansfield Fire Department responded to a three-alarm structure fire on 148 Chauncy St. Three occupants of the residence were trapped by the blaze and soon rescued.

Mansfield Fire and Police personnel safely rescued the three people from the third floor of the building. One occupant on the first floor got out of his or her own power, and one pet was safely rescued from the fire.  Mansfield Fire Chief Neil Boldrighini said that the fire was extremely hazardous, and the occupants were in a considerable amount of danger.

"There was heavy fire showing when our guys got here," he said.

The fire is out and and recovery teams are still working the scene as of 11:20 p.m. Boldrighini said that when the first responders arrived on scene, the fire was blowing out of the windows of the second floor. Police officers and firefighters gained access to the building to rescue the occupants by way of the fire escape and a ladder. The fire displaced a total of seven people, three of which were not home at the time.

"The guys did a really good job tonight," Boldrighini said. "I'm going to tell you, the police officers and first arriving firefighters gave a phenomenal effort rescuing those people out of there. There was really heavy fire when they got there."

Boldrighini said that the fire extended to the third floor and was stopped before it spread further. No cause has yet been determined.

Sharon, Norton, Plainville, Foxborough and Norfolk Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
