UPDATE: 3 Displaced After Basement Fire on Fruit Street

No one was in the home at the time of the fire.

UPDATE- Saturday 6:41 p.m. Three Mansfield residents have been displaced after a basement fire in a home at 543 Fruit Street near the Norton line.

“There was fire damage in one room and heat and smoke damage throughout the house,” said Mansfield Fire Lt. William Burgess.

“They won’t be able to stay there, they’ll have to find alternate housing for the night,” he said.

Burgess said the Red Cross will be assisting the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Norton Fire Department assisted on the scene with a ladder truck.

Mansfield Fire Department have knocked down a reported house fire on Fruit Street this evening.

According to reports the fire was in the basement of the house at 543 Fruit Street in Mansfield.

Authorities are still on-scene investigating the fire.

The call came in around 3:30 p.m.
