Mansfield Man Charged in Bank of America Robbery

George Engelhart was arrested Wednesday.

Police on Wednesday charged a local man with robbing the Bank of America on North Main Street.

George Engelhart, 51, of 2904 Francis Ave., used a black pellet gun with the red tip painted over to threaten a clerk, police said. He was charged with armed robbery and resisting arrest, among other charges.

Police said he robbed the bank at about 9:30 a.m. while wearing a scarf over his face and winter hat. Sgt. Brian Thibault responded to the scene and encountered Engelhart, police said.

"(Engelhart ... walked) away and Sgt. Thibault observed a large amount of loose and banded cash fall to the ground from his waistband," police said in a statement. "He was asked where the cash came from and he stated he found it. At this time, Det. John Armstrong arrived on scene and assisted Sgt. Thibault in placing him in custody."
