Mansfield Police: Resident Lured Man To Home Via Text, Assaulted Him

A Mansfield man is being accused of assaulting a man with a baseball bat after luring the man to his house from his girlfriends' cell phone, according to the Sun Chronicle

John J. Keefe, 52, of High Street, arrested at about 7:40 a.m., about an hour after the alleged assault, when police stopped his car near his home. The 30-year-old man Keefe allegedly assaulted told police was assaulted at the back door of the High Street home and that Keefe also hit his car with the baseball bat. The victim had injuries to his left arm and right hand, but did not require medical attention.

Keefe, who has no criminal record and pleaded innocent in Attleboro District Court is expected to post his $2,000 cash bail and was ordered to stay away from his girlfriend and the victim. He will be back in court on Oct. 8 on charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, vandalising property, uttering threats to kill, and intimidating a witness.
