Below is the full statement from the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office:

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz today announced that there was a non-fatal shooting on Route 3 southbound one mile north of exit 10. Gai Scott (DOB: 6/10/77) of Randolph, MA has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder his uncle, Raymond Scott (DOB: 7/18/65) of Mansfield.

On Saturday, March 29, 2014, at approximately 11:54 a.m., State Police received several 911 calls reporting a shooting on Route 3 southbound. Troop D responded to the scene and observed a red Dodge SUV in the middle of Route 3. The Dodge had bullet holes into the vehicle and a reddish brown substance believed to be blood within the vehicle. There were also shell casings and projectiles at the scene. Troop D personnel secured the scene.

Investigation revealed that Raymond Scott is Gai Scott’s Uncle. There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott. Gai Scott was traveling on Route 3 southbound in a funeral procession for a family member. He was heading to a church in Plymouth when the shooting took place. At some point when the cars were side by side, Gai Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by Raymond Scott. Raymond Scott was hit with gunfire.

Raymond Scott exited his vehicle and was taken to the Duxbury Police Department by a passerby. He was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal gunshot wounds.

Gai Scott was taken into custody by the Plymouth Department. He was transported to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks at Middleboro where he was interviewed by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. Gai Scott was subsequently charged with Assault with intent to Murder.

The matter is under investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office. They are being assisted by the Plymouth Police Department, the Duxbury Police Department and members of the State Police Troop D, Crime Scene Services Section, Ballistics Section, Crash Analysis Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Lab. Gai Scott will be arraigned on Monday in the Plymouth District Court.
