Mansfield Town Manager Selects New Chief of Police

Sergeant Ronald Sellon chosen as new Mansfield police chief.

After an extensive qualification and testing process, a new Chief of Police has been selected for the Town of Mansfield.

Sergeant Ronald Sellon, who is currently in charge of the detective division of hte Town of Mansfield's Police Department will replace Chief Arthur O’Neill, who will be retiring effective March 31, 2013 while Sellon will take over the position April 1.

William Ross, Town Manager of the Town of Mansfield was the Appointing Authority for the position. The process of hiring the new chief included a full day of assessment center activities that were undertaken by Mark Morse and Associates, under contract with the Town of Mansfield, and through the auspices of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Human Resources Division.

Sellon is a 17-year veteran of the Mansfield Police Department. He began his career as a patrol officer in 1996 and was promoted to the position of Sergeant in 2008. He holds a bachelor of science in law enforcement from Western New England College, a master of science in criminal justice administration from Western New England College, a juris doctor law degree from the Massachusetts School of Law with an emphasis on labor law, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in 2011. He is active in the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, the FBI National Academy Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Massachusetts Bar Association. 

Sellon is a native of Mansfield and currently resides in the town with his wife and three children who attend the Mansfield Schools.
