Multi-State Fugitive Arrested After Long Pursuit Through Massachusetts

In what was nearly a half-hour pursuit, Massachusetts State Troopers arrested a mult-state fugitive at the Bourne Rotary.

According to a State Police press release, the chase started at about 5:50 p.m. in Mansfield. Mansfield Police began pursuit of a black Volkswagen SUV operated by Nicholas J. Marshall, 24, of 8 Johnson Ave., Johnston R.I.

Marshall tried to elude police, traveling at speeds of over 100 mph during the chase. At exit 6 on Route 495, Police were able to puncture his tires, but still he continued. It was not until the Bourne Rotary that he was stopped; his SUV flipped over on the rotary right in front of the State Police Bourne Barracks.

Marshall sustained minor injuries and was transported to Falmouth Hospital. He is currently being charged with failure to stop, speeding and operating to endanger. Marshall also had  warrants out for his arrest. These included a larceny of a motor vehicle charge from South Boston Court, a fugitive from justice and another larceny of a motor vehicle from the Attleboro District Court, a charge of motor vehicle theft form Rhode Island and a charge of theft from Pennsylvania.

"The Troopers involved exhibited professional, precise patrol tactics and pursuit procedures, and took a dangerous suspect into custody with no injury to anyone other than the suspect himself," said Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson David Procopio in a press release. "Following the pursuit, Major Anthony Thomas, commanding officer of Troop D, commended the Troopers for their courageous and technically superb work."
