UPDATE: Attleboro Man Arrested in Mansfield Shooting Death

O'Neill says the shootings "isolated incident".

Mansfield Police arrested an Attleboro man Tuesday night in the shooting death of a Brockton man on Saturday, Jan 15.

Tyerell Charles, 20, of 154 Knight Avenue, Attleboro was arrested Jan 18 in the death of Aderito Cardoso, 22 of Brockton, according to a press release from Greg Miliote, Director of Communications for District Attorney Sam Sutter’ office,

Charles was arrested and charged with murder by State Police Detectives assigned to District Attorney Sutter's office and Mansfield Police at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he was being treated for a non-life threatening, gunshot wound, sustained in Saturday’s incident. Officials from the hospital stated Tuesday night Charles is no longer a patient there.

On Saturday, Mansfield police responded to several 911 calls at 3:42 a.m. reporting an argument, then gunshots, at T 2904 Francis Avenue, home of Nicole Baker, 22, as stated in the police logs.

All officers on duty at the time responded to the calls and found Cardoso and Charles unconscious upon arrival. Mansfield fire and police transported both men via MedFlight from the Mansfield Municipal Airport to Beth Israel and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals, said Lt. Richard Fiske of the Mansfield Fire Department on Saturday. Cardoso was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at Beth isreal.

Earlier today, Chief Arthur ONeill told Mansfield Patch that the shooting was an “isolated incident” and the public is not at risk. O’Neill said the shootings are neither gang nor drug related.

O’Neill said several people were at the apartment at the time of the shootings, but earlier reports of a baby in the apartment were incorrect.

“The baby was with the grandparents in Chicopee”, said O’Neill.

Charles will be arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Wednesday. Assistant District Attorney Aaron Strojny will detail the case during the arraignment.
