Electricity Rebate Programs Continue in Mansfield

Mansfield extends energy conservation rebate program for another three years.

The Mansfield Light Commission voted 5-0 to extend the residential conservation service rebate program for another three years on Wednesday.

"It requires us to target one quarter of one percent of operating revenue each year for residential conservation services programs," Mansfield Electric director Gary Babin said. "This program has been tremendously successful for us over the year. In 2011, there were 727 customers, about eight and a half percent of our residential customers participating in the program."

The program allows rebates of $100, (for refrigerators, washing machines and central air conditioning), $75 (for a dishwasher) $50 (for a dehumidifier) and $25 (for  a window air conditioner) if the devices has an Energy Star sticker.

The program is designed to help reduce energy consumption, so not only do rebate beneficiaries get up to $100 from the rebate, they also save on their energy bills overtime.

"I'm really happy to see that of all the programs that I've seen for energy conservation, certainly in this town, it is by far the best program," Babin said.
